The experts of the Bomb squad have been called in after the cities of Sweden were rocked by four explosions within an hour, Swedish Police said, with the nation struggling to control a surge of gang-related brutality.

Merely after 1:00 am local time (2300 GMT), local police in Gothenburg obtained information about two explosions at different addresses, just 10 minutes apart.

Both areas have been sealed off and technical probes are continuing, local police said, adding that the national expert bomb squad had been called to the location. Police added that till now there have been no reports of someone being hurt, only material damage.

Just an hour later two other explosions were informed minutes apart in Norsborg and Nykoping, about 100 kilometers south of the country’s capital.

In both cases, police said no one was injured. All four explosions were at residential buildings.

Stockholm has struggled to control a surge of shootings and bombings in current years as gangs determine scores fueled by the drug trade.

It was too early as yet to suspect a reason for the two explosions in the city, Gothenburg police told AFP.

According to the police data, Sweden witnessed 90 explosions and another 101 cases of attempted bombings or trials for bombings, in 2022.

As per August 15 reports, 109 explosions had been recorded this year.

Bombs are mostly used to threaten targets, while shootings are used to eliminate and kill foes, police have previously said.

According to police data, Sweden recorded 391 shootings in 2022, 62 of them deadly, up from 45 the last year.
