Moscow has announced that Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia will host his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan for a two-day visit beginning on Thursday, after Ankara’s top diplomat had discussions with top officials of Ukraine last week.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey will also visit Russia soon to hold talks with his counterpart, Russian President Vladimir Putin on restoring an agreement that will allow secure grain shipments across the Black Sea.

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry told reporters that Lavrov and Hakan Fidan would be concerned about the situation in the region, especially in Ukraine, Syria, Libya, and Transcaucasia.

Turkish President Erdogan has utilized his good links with Russia and Ukraine to attempt to carry both sides into proper peace talks.

Turkey, one of the NATO members, assisted in negotiating the only significant deal – a deal to import grain from three Ukrainian ports across the Black Sea – signed by Moscow and Kyiv since the beginning of the battle last year in 2022.
