On Monday, Ukraine said that Kyiv forces had recaptured an oil and gas drilling platform in the Black Sea that had been controlled by Russia since 2015.
The platform is approximately halfway between the Russia-annexed Crimean peninsula and the coast of the Ukrainian southwestern Odesa region.
Ukraine’s military intelligence said in a statement that Kyiv retrieves control of the so-called Boyka Towers (platform).
It said it had set control of drilling platforms and rigs in what it called a “unique operation.”
During one stage of the operation, a war took place between Ukraine’s special forces on boats and a Russian Su-30 fighter jet, it added, asserting that the Russian plane was “hit and forced to retreat.”
It released a video of boats circulating the oil and gas platform before its armies are caught shooting into the air.
Russia annexed Crimea and much of the surrounding waters in 2014 and has blamed Ukraine for attempting to attack the rig before.
Ukraine and Russia have expanded attacks in the Black Sea since Moscow drew out of a key agreement assuring the secure navigation of cargo ships.
