According to Viktor Orban, the Hungarian Prime Minister, the West should make an agreement with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, on Ukraine’s new protection architecture, which shouldn’t contain the return of Crimea nor Ukrainian membership in the NATO military alliance.
Orban who has encountered criticism over his actions to undermine the sanctions of the Western that were set on Moscow after it attacked Kyiv, told Tucker Carlson, the former host of Fox News, that Ukraine was on the path to losing the battle because it was outnumbered by the troops of Russia.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Viktor Orban said that we should make an agreement with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, on Ukraine’s new protection architecture and freedom for Ukraine but not membership in NATO.
Wednesday’s interview was published on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The retrieval of the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014, before its full-scale attack on Kyiv in 2022, was “completely unrealistic,” Orban said.
He added that the best prospect for peace was for ex-US President Donald Trump to return to authority and for him to end military aid to Ukraine.
Orban has attempted to thwart EU aid, declined to provide weapons to Ukraine, and has often said that Kyiv’s counter-attack was doomed to fail.
Orban’s government has also cut agreements with Moscow on power, assuring gas supplies and pushing ahead with the Russia-led construction of its nuclear power plant over the reservations of some EU and NATO allies.
