Just a day after White House budget director Shalanda Young warned in a letter to Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and other congressional leaders that the United States was running out of money and time to help war-torn country Ukraine fight its war with Russia, it’s been a moment of analysis that what would be the future of Ukraine…Will Ukraine give up the region of its land that has been claimed by Russia from Day one of war..Or if this war continues which ally would be the leading contributor of arms to Kyiv?
She wrote in a letter, “I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from US military stocks. There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money — and nearly out of time.”
While National Security Advisory Jake Sullivan suggested that voting against aid for Ukraine was effectively voting to make it easier for Russia to gain victory over Ukraine’s land.
Sullivan told reporters at the White House, “Congress has to decide whether to continue to support the fight for freedom in Ukraine…or whether Congress will ignore the lessons we’ve learned from history and let Putin prevail.”
Well, it’s in doubt that the will US remain to lead the chart of the largest contributor of arms to Ukraine but Ukraine could also return an empty hand from the White House. So the concern of Ukrainians is how long they will push to the war and who will step up now to lead the chart of the largest contributor of arms to Ukraine.
Today it is so clear that the United States is the leading provider of arms to Ukraine, having committed $44.5 billion since the start of the Biden administration in January 2021. $43.9 billion of that contribution has been provided since Russia attacked Ukraine in February 2022.
But as far as it is concerned will the US be able to carry on the chart after December 2023 or not? That’s why here’s what our expert panel measured who could lead the chart and be named as the largest contributor of arms to Ukraine?
Probable allies that could assist Ukraine:
United Kingdom
The UK is currently the second largest contributor of arms to Ukraine and could lead the chart of the biggest arms contributors. The UK has committed £4.6 billion in military assistance to Kyiv so far.
Backed by several allies, Britain is also hosting a training program (Operation Interflex) to train 30,000 new and existing Ukrainian personnel by the end of 2023.
NATO
As an alliance, NATO has been in a clear position in its political support of Ukraine and fully supports the requirement of bilateral military assistance by individual allies. NATO’s firm position in Ukraine’s support could make it the leading contributor.
However, Ukraine is not a member of NATO and it could be the reason that it could get bottom of the loss because NATO troops will not be deployed on the land in Ukraine. Allies have also ruled out imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine because it would bring Russia into direct conflict with NATO forces.
The EU
EU, the economic union of 27 member states could be the largest military assistance provider to Ukraine. This is the first time that the European Union has approved the supply of lethal weapons to a third country and it could be a positive point of the bloc being the largest contributor of arms to Ukraine.
Till the last computation, the EU has committed just over €5.6 billion, including €1 billion of funds to refund EPF nations who have provided urgently needed arms. €1 billion of EPF funds has also been established aside for the joint EU procurement of artillery ammunition. The EU, last year in October, approved a new training mission for the Ukrainian armed forces.
