Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with a severe form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, according to a statement released by his office on Sunday.
The 82-year-old former leader was officially diagnosed on Friday after experiencing urinary complications. Following the diagnosis, Biden and his family have begun consulting with medical experts to explore treatment options.
Aggressive But Manageable Cancer Type
Despite the seriousness of the condition, Biden’s medical team noted that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which often allows for more effective treatment and long-term management.
“Although this is a more aggressive stage of the disease, its responsiveness to hormone therapy provides a hopeful path forward,” the statement explained.
Health Concerns Have Long Shadowed Biden’s Presidency
Biden, who served as the 46th President of the United States from 2021 to 2025, withdrew from his 2024 re-election campaign in July. The decision came after a widely criticized debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump, which sparked concern among voters and party members over Biden’s age and cognitive sharpness.

Following his exit from the race, then-Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in as the Democratic Party’s nominee. However, she was defeated in the November 2024 election by Trump, who returned to power at age 78 — now the oldest person to ever win the U.S. presidency, surpassing Biden’s previous record.
Ongoing Focus on Biden’s Health
Throughout his presidency and beyond, Joe Biden’s physical and mental health remained a key point of public and media interest. While supporters emphasized his decades of experience and steady leadership, critics raised questions about his stamina and alertness during key moments.
Now facing a significant health battle, Biden is expected to undergo further medical evaluations as his team develops a comprehensive treatment plan.
