Iran’s Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh issued a stark warning on Wednesday, stating that if ongoing nuclear negotiations with the United States break down and lead to conflict, Iran will not hesitate to strike American military bases across the region.
Speaking just days before a scheduled sixth round of nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, Nasirzadeh said during a press briefing, “If a conflict is imposed on us, all U.S. bases in the region are within our reach and will be targeted without hesitation in their host countries.”
Rising Tensions Ahead of Renewed Negotiations
Tensions have escalated as both nations prepare to resume discussions aimed at reviving a nuclear agreement. The U.S. has proposed new terms, while Iran is set to present a counter-offer in the coming days. Discrepancies remain over the schedule, with President Donald Trump indicating talks will occur Thursday, while Iranian officials say Sunday in Oman is the agreed date.

Trump has continued to warn Tehran of possible military action if no deal is reached, stating earlier this week that Iran is becoming “much more aggressive” in its stance.
Disagreements Over Uranium Enrichment and Missiles
One of the primary sticking points remains Iran’s uranium enrichment activities, which the West views as a stepping stone toward the development of nuclear weapons. Iran, however, insists its nuclear program is for peaceful, civilian use.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed optimism despite tensions, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “As we resume talks on Sunday, it is clear that an agreement ensuring the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program is within reach — and could be achieved rapidly.”
Another critical issue in the negotiations is Iran’s ballistic missile program. Western powers have pushed for limits, but Iranian leaders continue to reject any restrictions.
Nasirzadeh confirmed that Iran recently tested a missile with a two-ton warhead, asserting that Tehran will not agree to limitations on its military capabilities.
Khamenei Supports Military Expansion
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has consistently emphasized the need to strengthen Iran’s defense systems, including its missile arsenal. In a statement from February, Khamenei said, “Iran must continue to enhance its military capabilities to ensure national security.”
As the world watches closely, the outcome of this next round of talks could determine whether diplomacy prevails or tensions escalate further in the volatile Middle East region.
