Sergei Ryabkov, the Deputy Foreign Minister said that Russia military collaboration with Iran will not surrender to geopolitical tension, following reports that the US has asked Iran to halt selling drones to Russia.
According to a Saturday report from Russian state news RIA, There are no changes, and collaboration with Iran will continue, We are self-dependent states and do not surrender to the dictates of the United States and its satellites.
The Financial Times reported earlier this month that Washington is pushing Tehran to halt selling the drones and that Moscow is operating in the battle in Kyiv, quoting an Iranian official and another person knowledgeable with the discussions.
Moscow started using the Iranian-made “Shahed” drones to strike deep inside Ukraine in 2022. The so-called kamikaze pilotless drones do not require a runway to launch and burst on target.
Theran has admitted selling drones to Moscow but said in the past they were sent before Moscow’s 2022 attack on Kyiv. Russia has rejected its forces-operated Iranian drones in Ukraine.
Iran has sent some hundred drones to Russia since August 2022, a White House official said in June.
