Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction and validation following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks supporting Trump’s claim that he could swiftly address critical issues, including the Ukraine conflict. Putin’s comments were made during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, where he expressed happiness about Trump’s assertion that he could resolve pressing matters within a few days, particularly the Ukrainian crisis.
In an interview with NBC News, Donald Trump, who has faced four indictments, welcomed Putin’s praise, interpreting it as confirmation of the correctness of his perspective. Trump maintained his position that, if he were to return to the White House, he could bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict within a mere 24 hours, though he remained tight-lipped about the specifics of his approach.
This isn’t the first time the 77-year-old former president has made such a claim, but he has consistently refrained from divulging details, asserting that doing so would weaken his negotiating position. He emphasized the necessity of certain discussions with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Regarding Putin’s comments, Trump expressed his gratitude, stating that he appreciated the Russian president’s acknowledgment. He indicated his intent to facilitate negotiations between Putin and Zelenskyy to reach a fair agreement for all parties involved, although he didn’t delve into the specifics of his proposed strategy.
Trump also highlighted his previous robust stance on Russia and his ability to establish a working relationship with Putin during his presidential tenure. He underscored the importance of maintaining open communication with a nation that possesses a substantial nuclear arsenal. However, Trump refrained from specifying how he would address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine if he were to return to the Oval Office.
Throughout the ongoing Ukraine conflict, Trump has notably refrained from openly criticizing Putin, in contrast to many U.S. leaders who have staunchly supported Ukraine without considering Russia’s perspective on the matter. Trump even referred to Putin as a “savvy” figure when Russia initiated its special military operation in February 2022.
