Prince Harry has emerged victorious in his legal battle against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), with the High Court awarding him £140,000 ($180,000) in damages. The ruling by Justice Timothy Fancourt was a significant win for the Duke of Sussex in one of his multiple phone hacking lawsuits against the publication.
In an official statement delivered by his legal team outside the High Court, Prince Harry expressed satisfaction, stating, “Today is a great day for truth as well as accountability.” He elaborated on the extensive and habitual unlawful information gathering that took place across all three titles over more than a decade.
Harry commended his legal team for exposing the Mirror Newspaper’s “systemic and appalling behavior followed by cover-ups.” He pointed out that both MGN board directors and Piers Morgan were evidently aware of the phone hacking from the outset.
The Duke called on the Metropolitan Police to fulfill their duty and investigate potential charges against the company and those involved in breaking the law. Recognizing the slow and arduous path to justice, he revealed enduring defamatory stories and intimidating tactics aimed at thwarting him.
The victory marks a significant moment in Prince Harry’s ongoing legal battles, shedding light on the pervasive phone hacking practices within the media industry.
