Several countries across the world have announced the celebration of the first day of Eidul Fitr on April 22 (Saturday) as the Shawwal moon was not spotted in their regions.
Here are all the countries that have announced Saturday as the first day of the Islamic festival:
Australia
Saturday, April 22, will be the first day of Eidul Fitr in Australia. According to a statement by the Australian Fatwa Council, the decision is based on astronomical calculations that indicate that the crescent moon will not be visible on Thursday evening.
Brunei
The sovereign state of Brunei has announced Saturday as the first day of Eidul Fitr. The state will mark April 22 as the first day of the Islamic festival because the sighting of the crescent moon of Shawwal has not been proven in the country.
A group of 25 astronomy experts from 13 Arab countries has jointly declared that the crescent moon in the month of Shawwal cannot be seen today (April 20, Thursday) with the naked eye in the Arab and Islamic regions.
Indonesia
The Shawwal crescent was not spotted on April 20 from Indonesia, making Saturday, April 22, the first day of Eid in the country.
Iran
Iran has announced that Saturday, April 22, is the first day of Eidul Fitr, as the sighting of the crescent has not been confirmed.
Japan
Eidul Fitr will fall on Saturday, April 22, in Japan, on account of the moon not being sighted on Thursday
Libya
Libya has announced that Saturday, April 22, is the first day of Eidul Fitr because the sighting of the crescent has not been confirmed.
Malaysia
Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, April 22 in Malaysia, as the crescent moon was not spotted on Thursday, April 20.
Morocco
The Kingdom of Morocco announced that Saturday, April 22, is the day of Eidul Fitr because the sighting of the crescent was not proven after an attempt was made to investigate by more than 200 investigation committees.
Oman
Oman has announced Saturday, April 22, as the first day of Eidul Fitr, after it was not possible to see the Shawwal crescent for the year 1444 AH.
Earlier, Oman had announced Eidul Fitr holidays for employees in the government and private sector, from Thursday, April 20 to Monday, April 24, 2023, the Oman Observer reported.
Pakistan
Saturday, April 22, will be the first day of Eidul Fitr in Pakistan, due to the lack of proven sightings of the crescent.
Philippines
The first day of Eidul Fitr in the Philippines will be on Saturday, according to Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta’, the Islamic Advisory Council of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Shiek Abuhuraira Udasan, Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro region, said the crescent moon was not sighted on Thursday.
Teams from the Darul-Ifta’ were deployed to various locations in provinces in Mindanao, including Maguindanao del Norte, Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, as well as the cities of Cotabato, and Iligan, but no one confirmed seeing the crescent moon using their telescopes.
Singapore
Muslims in Singapore will celebrate Eidul Fitr on Saturday, April 22, 2023, as the Shawwal crescent was not spotted on Thursday.
Thailand
The Islamic festival will fall on Saturday in Thailand, as the moon was not spotted in the country on Thursday.
