Emily Blunt’s Heartfelt Apology for 2012 Talk Show Controversy

Emily Blunt, the talented actress best known for her roles in films like “A Quiet Place” and “The Devil Wears Prada,” has recently issued a heartfelt apology for comments she made during a talk show appearance in 2012. In a statement exclusively provided to PEOPLE, the star expressed deep regret for her past remarks, offering an unreserved apology to anyone who may have been hurt by her choice of words.

The controversy stemmed from a resurfaced YouTube clip of Blunt’s appearance on the U.K.’s Jonathan Ross Show in September 2012. During the interview, she referred to a restaurant server as “enormous” while reminiscing about her experiences working on the film “Looper” in the United States.

Blunt’s apology was marked by sincerity and self-reflection. She addressed the issue directly, saying, “I must confront this directly as I was taken aback watching this clip from 12 years ago. I am genuinely appalled that I would utter something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to the story I was trying to convey on a talk show.”

The actress, known for her kindness and professionalism in the industry, expressed bewilderment about her own comments, stating, “I have always viewed myself as someone who would never intend to cause offense, so the reason I said something like this in that moment is beyond my comprehension and contrary to my beliefs.”

Blunt concluded her statement with a heartfelt apology, saying, “Nonetheless, it happened, I said it, and I deeply regret any pain it may have caused. I was unquestionably old enough to know better.”

The video that sparked the controversy featured Blunt sharing an anecdote about dining at a Chili’s restaurant while filming “Looper,” leading to the use of insensitive language.

Emily Blunt’s apology not only demonstrates her accountability but also highlights her commitment to promoting kindness and sensitivity in her public statements. It serves as a reminder that even public figures can make mistakes and learn from them, emphasizing the importance of continued growth and self-awareness.
