G-Dragon, the former leader and member of the renowned K-pop group BigBang, is currently under investigation by Korean police over allegations of drug abuse. Widely known as the “King of K-pop,” the 35-year-old rapper was summoned by authorities on October 25.
The investigation, according to reports by The Korea Herald, centers on potential violations of the Narcotics Control Act. The allegations have raised significant attention within the K-pop and entertainment community.
In response to the developments, G-Dragon’s former label, YG Entertainment, has officially distanced itself from the controversy, emphasizing that G-Dragon is no longer associated with their agency. They stated, “It is difficult to respond officially as he is not currently an artist under our company.” YG Entertainment had previously announced the expiration of their exclusive contract with G-Dragon in June, marking the end of a long-standing partnership.
The situation took a significant turn when Naver News, referencing News1, reported that South Korea’s Incheon Police Agency had booked G-Dragon without detention. The charges pertain to the violation of drug management regulations. Notably, his name was linked to actor Lee Sun Kyun’s drug scandal. However, the police clarified that their investigations into G-Dragon’s case are separate and distinct from the ongoing inquiries into Lee Sun Kyun’s alleged drug use.
It’s important to note that this is not the first time G-Dragon has faced allegations related to drug use. In 2011, the artist, widely recognized by his birth name Kwon Ji-yong, made headlines due to a drug scandal where he admitted to using ganja at a club in Japan. However, the authorities ultimately dropped the case, as G-Dragon asserted he was unaware of the substance he had consumed at the time.
