In an exclusive interview with ET in London on November 29, Timothée Chalamet shared his enthusiasm for taking on the iconic role of Willy Wonka in the upcoming film “Wonka,” where he’ll be starring alongside Hugh Grant. The 27-year-old actor expressed his joy, describing the opportunity as a “dream come true” and feeling like an “honorary Brit” alongside esteemed co-stars like Hugh Grant, Olivia Coleman, and Rowan Atkinson.

Chalamet, renowned for his roles in films such as “Call Me by Your Name,” didn’t shy away from acknowledging the legacy of Willy Wonka portrayed by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp. He emphasized the distinctive nature of this version, delving into the origin of the beloved character.

While addressing the skepticism often surrounding reimaginings of cherished characters, Chalamet praised director Paul King for crafting an engaging script and offering a fresh perspective. He clarified, “It’s not Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” underscoring the uniqueness of the approach taken in this film.

Encouraging audiences to form their own opinions, Chalamet expressed confidence in King’s direction and the film’s ability to stand on its own merits. As the highly-anticipated release approaches, fans worldwide are eager to witness Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Willy Wonka in “Wonka,” set to captivate audiences next month.
