Twitter Is Blocked in Turkey

Twitter has been blocked on several networks inside Turkey due to growing public anger towards President Recep Tayyip Erdogan government’s response to Monday’s deadly earthquakes.

Turkish people started having trouble accessing Twitter on Wednesday afternoon. Some have resorted to VPNs to use the service. Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of Turkey’s main opposition party, has accused the government of blocking Twitter.

According to NetBlocks(a group that tracks internet outages) said Twitter was being restricted “on multiple internet providers in Turkey”.

In a speech on Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that he would not allow “disinformation” to spread in the wake of the earthquakes and called on Turks not to listen to “provocateurs”.

However, Turkish police have detained more than a dozen people since Monday’s earthquake over social media posts that criticized how President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government has been dealing with the disaster.
