In the inaugural year of his monarchy, King Charles has adopted a low-key approach, steering clear of controversy, according to PR expert Luana Ribeira. In contrast, Prince Harry has faced a series of challenges, contributing to what Ribeira describes as a “major headache” for the new monarch.
Ribeira compared Charles’s entry into the role with the youthful ascension of Queen Elizabeth II, noting that she had an untarnished public record, while Charles, at an older age with extensive royal experience, faced different PR dynamics.
“Starting the role as someone people know so much about is challenging from a PR perspective, and King Charles has largely flown under the radar in the first year or so of his reign,” explained Ribeira. Despite occasional moments caught on camera, such as his frustration with a pen, Charles has generally maintained a subdued and less controversial profile than anticipated.
Ribeira acknowledged that Charles’s primary difficulties have arisen from family relationships, particularly the strained rapport with Prince Harry and legal issues involving Harry’s interactions with the press. The scrutiny of Charles’s relationship with his younger brother, Prince Andrew, has added to the challenges. Ribeira concluded by noting that King Charles has wisely chosen to remain quiet on these matters, opting for a more measured and strategic approach.
