Country singer and The Voice winner Jason “Sundance” Head has broken his silence after surviving a harrowing accidental gunshot incident that left him hospitalized.

In a heartfelt video posted on Sunday, the 46-year-old Texas native thanked God, medical professionals, and his supporters for helping him survive what he called one of the “craziest things” that has ever happened to him.

Titled “Statement – Part 1,” the video, recorded at his home in front of a Christmas tree, showed Sundance reflecting on the traumatic experience. “I was sure I was gonna die,” he said, recounting the terrifying moment when he was shot in the stomach while alone in the woods.

“I’m in a lot of pain, but I’m alive,” Sundance continued, expressing his overwhelming gratitude for the healthcare workers at UT Tyler Hospital who helped save his life. “I just want to say thank you to the first responders. They did an amazing job.”

The Voice winner also took a moment to thank a Good Samaritan who stopped to help him while he was bleeding out on the side of the road. “Without you, man, I don’t think I was gonna make it,” he said. Sundance explained that, while several cars passed by without stopping, the stranger and another man took action to assist him. “I was at the end of the road,” he shared emotionally.

“I love you, and I’m so thankful you were there. It wasn’t a random meeting, and I look forward to spending more time with you in the future.”

Sundance concluded the video by expressing his gratitude to his fans, many of whom had been praying for his recovery. The singer, who gained national attention as a fan favorite on The Voice during the 2016 season under Blake Shelton’s mentorship, also previously competed on American Idol in 2007, making it to the semi-finals.

His fans have since flooded social media with well-wishes, thankful that the country star is on the road to recovery after such a terrifying ordeal.
