The film, directed by Lynne Ramsay and based on Ariana Harwicz’s novel, tells the haunting story of a woman grappling with postpartum depression and identity loss in rural Montana.

“There’s something uniquely isolating about postpartum,” Lawrence added. “Even in a place filled with people, you can feel completely alone. That feeling was at the heart of this story.”

On Motherhood: “Brutal and Incredible”

Jennifer Lawrence, who welcomed her first child with husband Cooke Maroney in 2022 and their second in March 2025, described motherhood as a life-altering experience.

“Having children transforms your entire perspective,” she explained. “It affects when, where, and how you work. It’s brutal and incredible all at once.”

A Powerful Performance at Cannes

Die, My Love, which stars Lawrence as Grace and Robert Pattinson as her husband, Jackson, premiered on May 17 at Cannes to critical acclaim. The film has already sparked discussions around mental health, postpartum struggles, and the complexity of motherhood.

Lawrence also spoke about her admiration for Ramsay, saying she had long hoped to collaborate with the visionary director. “I was so moved by her work, especially Ratcatcher. Getting to work with her on a project this emotionally rich was a dream.”
