Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio recently reflected on hitting the milestone of turning 50, offering candid insights about age, life, and personal growth. The discussion took place in an interview with director Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire’s Mavericks of Hollywood issue, promoting their collaboration on One Battle After Another.
When asked by Anderson, “If you didn’t know how old you are, how old are you right now?” the Titanic and Shutter Island star responded with a surprising answer: “Thirty-two.”
DiCaprio went on to explain that, emotionally, he feels even younger — “emotionally 35.” The Inception actor shared that reaching this age milestone inspired him to prioritize honesty and avoid wasting time on unnecessary pretense.

“It creates a feeling like you have a desire to just be more honest and not waste your time,” DiCaprio remarked. Reflecting on the years ahead, he added, “I can only imagine how the next few decades are going to progress.”
The Aviator star also highlighted the influence of his mother, Iremlin DiCaprio, noting her straightforward approach to life. “She just says exactly what she thinks and wastes no time. She spends no time trying to fake it,” he explained.
DiCaprio emphasized that embracing honesty and authenticity often requires taking risks, whether in personal or professional relationships. “It’s that you just don’t want to waste your time anymore,” he concluded, underscoring the value of living with clarity and purpose as he enters his 50s.
