Andrew Windsor’s New Sandringham Home Surprises Visitors with Unexpected Smell

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the former Duke of York, has moved into Wood Farm at Sandringham, and visitors report that the home carries an unexpected smell that catches them off guard.

Julia Banim, a writer who recently visited the estate, described her impressions in Mirror:

“I visited the Sandringham Estate shortly after Andrew’s shock move and was taken aback by this relatively humble abode. While a dream house to most, this isn’t the sort of property that stops you in your tracks. It’s large, but not imposing.”

Banim noted the lack of privacy, saying the front windows are “a little more than a stone’s throw away,” and the garden appears neglected and sleepy. The smell of wet mud was particularly striking, giving a very different impression from what one might expect for a man born at Buckingham Palace.

“It looks like the pleasant, red brick home of a well-to-do middle-class businessman, not the favourite son of Britain’s longest-serving monarch,” she wrote.

Andrew’s Housing Situation

After being evicted from Royal Lodge at Windsor, Andrew now has two homes at his disposal, moving between Wood Farm and Marsh Farm. A source told Mirror that the arrangement is temporary, as Wood Farm is also used by Edward and Sophie, and the logistics still need sorting.

This move highlights the contrast between Andrew’s current living situation and his royal upbringing, with Wood Farm presenting a modest, country-life feel far removed from Buckingham Palace.
