LOS ANGELES, April 30 — Singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about her current outlook on love, friendships and the pressures of fame ahead of her upcoming third studio album.
In a new interview with Cosmopolitan, the Grammy-winning artist said she is currently prioritizing close friendships and community over romantic relationships.
She described this stage of her life as being centered on “friendship love,” calling it the most important form of connection in her world at the moment.
“Dating is just the cherry on top,” Rodrigo said, emphasizing that her strongest emotional focus is on the people closest to her.
New Album on the Horizon
Rodrigo is preparing to release her third studio album titled you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, scheduled for June 12.
The project follows her breakout debut SOUR and her second album GUTS, both of which brought her global commercial success and critical attention.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the new release, Rodrigo said her personal definition of success is not tied strictly to charts or reception.
She explained that feeling authentic in her work and being surrounded by loved ones matters more to her than external validation.
Pressure Behind the Music
Rodrigo also reflected on the pressure she experienced while creating her previous albums.
She said the rapid production of SOUR left little room for revision, as she and her team moved quickly to release the project while public attention was high.
With GUTS, she said expectations created internal pressure, making her feel the need to prove herself with each release.
According to Rodrigo, that mindset shifted the creative process from personal expression to performance under scrutiny.
Looking Forward
Now entering a new phase in her career, Rodrigo appears focused on balancing artistic growth with emotional grounding.
She described her current goal as staying true to herself while continuing to create music that reflects her personal experiences.
The interview offers a more personal glimpse into Rodrigo’s mindset as she prepares for one of the most anticipated pop releases of the year, highlighting the tension between fame, creativity and emotional well-being.
