The woman infamously known as the “Cult mom” has received a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the brutal murders of her two children and her husband’s previous wife.
The conclusion of this harrowing four-year saga has left numerous hearts broken and law enforcement deeply affected.
Lori Vallow, aged 50, was convicted in May for the killings of her seven-year-old son, Joshua “JJ” Vallow, and her 16-year-old daughter, Tylee Ryan. The disappearance of the children in September 2019 triggered a nationwide search and provoked public outrage.
Prosecutors successfully convinced the jury that Vallow, along with her husband Chad Daybell and her brother Alex Cox, conspired to commit the murders, driven by their bizarre cult beliefs. Additionally, financial motives emerged, as the trio sought to collect life insurance money from Daybell’s previous wife, Tammy’s death, and the children’s social security and survivor benefits.
During the trial, Vallow displayed no apparent remorse, claiming her children and Tammy were “busy” and “happy” in heaven. Heartbreaking impact statements from devastated family members further underscored the tragic loss of innocent lives.

The remains of JJ and Tylee were discovered buried in Daybell’s yard a year after their disappearance. The chilling details revealed Tylee was stabbed and her body burned before being buried, while JJ’s head was wrapped in tape and plastic, leading to asphyxiation.
Judge Steven W. Boyce expressed horror at the unimaginable act of a parent taking the lives of their own children and strongly criticized Vallow for her lack of remorse. He condemned her for descending into a “bizarre religious rabbit hole.”
