In anticipation of the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan has made a significant adjustment to its 17-member squad lineup, introducing middle-order batter Saud Shakeel into the mix. This strategic maneuver, confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is aimed at fortifying the team’s composition as they prepare to compete in the highly anticipated tournament, set to kick off on August 30.

The inclusion of Saud Shakeel, who was initially not part of the squad, marks a calculated decision by the team’s management to enhance the team’s capabilities. This adaptation underscores the agility and responsiveness of Pakistan’s cricket administration in aligning the team’s composition with the demands of the upcoming event. Additionally, the right-handed batter Tayyab Tahir has been designated as a traveling reserve, ensuring a robust and well-rounded team presence throughout the tournament.

Led by the accomplished Babar Azam, the Pakistani team is scheduled to arrive in Multan on Sunday, August 27. A day of rest is scheduled for the ensuing day, offering the players an opportunity to recharge before entering the rigorous competition. Notably, the team management has extended relaxation to players who participated in the Lankan Premier League, with Babar Azam, Imam-ul-Haq, and Naseem Shah set to join the side in Lahore on Sunday, followed by integration into the main squad on Monday evening.

The training regimen for the revamped squad is slated to commence on Tuesday, August 29, at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The practice session, scheduled from 1630 to 1930, will play a pivotal role in fine-tuning the team’s skills and strategies ahead of the tournament. In a proactive move, Captain Babar Azam is set to conduct a pre-series media conference, providing insights and expectations for the upcoming battles on the cricket field.

The inaugural match of the Asia Cup 2023 will witness Pakistan facing off against Nepal in Multan on August 30. As the nation eagerly anticipates the tournament’s commencement, the Pakistani squad is poised for success with a diverse ensemble of talent spanning crucial batting and bowling positions.

The revised Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup 2023 comprises Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Haris (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Afridi, and Usama Mir. As Pakistan readies itself for the challenges ahead, the team’s dynamic roster reflects a strategic approach in pursuit of victory against formidable opponents in the Asia Cup 2023.
