Dutch forum ‘worrying’ about AI used in a war

Wopke Hoekstra, the Dutch Foreign Minister seems worried about the uses of Killer AI in war. On Wednesday, the Dutch official pointed out the issue of AI in the war at a first international conference in the Netherlands on the uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the military. He also stated how could AI be utilized in a war.

Along with China, and America around 50 countries attended the first international conference in the Netherlands on the uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the military. The actual object of the two-day meeting in The Hague was to take a first step to regulate the use of Artificial Intelligence on the battlefield similar to the use of chemical and nuclear weapons.

It generated these sentences faster than I can write, speak, or think.

By ensuring the responsible development, deployment and use of AI in the military domain, we can make AI fit for the 21st century.

Russia has not been invited to the conference due to the invasion of Ukraine. While according to Dutch officials, China was invited as a key player in tech and AI.

Together, we must seek common grounds on the definition of these technologies, starting with two quite basic questions: what is AI, and who is responsible for its actions? AI is everywhere, it’s changing the way we live, it’s changing the way we work and it’s changing the military.”

Dutch official also used the example of a missile-hit-building, he said that Artificial Intelligence could detect the impact and where the survivors are located, in a second.

But AI could intercept the missile before it hit the building but what’s more worrying is that it has the potential to destroy it in seconds.

While Artificial Intelligence is already used in the military for various purposes including reconnaissance, scrutiny, surveillance, and situation analysis that include so-called drone swarms and the use of Artificial Intelligence in nuclear command and control systems.

We are also witnessing how Russia is violating humanitarian law most brutally.”

Wopke Hoekstra added.
