Swedish Company Launches World’s First Airbag Jeans for Motorcyclists

A Swedish fashion-tech company, has announced the launch of the world’s first airbag jean, called the Mo’cycle Airbag Jeans.

After four years in development, the jeans have finally hit the market, offering motorcyclists the “safest motorcycle jeans in the world”. The jeans were created in partnership with Helite, a motorcycle airbag technology provider, and are designed to reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

The Mo’cycle Airbag Jeans cover several areas on the lower body, including hips, tailbone, knees, and thighs with an airbag that is triggered in milliseconds when the rider is physically removed from the motorcycle at a force of approximately 40 kilograms (88 pounds) per second. The airbag is self-deflating and can be refilled with a new CO2 cartridge after it has been activated.

The jeans are made with Armalith denim, a patented abrasion-resistant material that consists of 57 percent cotton, 10 percent Lycra, and 33 percent Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE). Compared to Kevlar, Armalith reports that UHMWPE is five times more resistant to abrasion, 40 percent lighter, has 2.5 times greater tensile strength, and retains its properties 10 times longer when exposed to UV light.

In addition to being highly protective, the jeans are also water repellent, breathable, and can be worn in any weather. They are available in relaxed and straight fits in blue or black and retail for 499-599 euros ($532-$639) on Mo’cycle’s website. Airbag Inside Sweden AB has already manufactured over 200 pairs of the jeans and has released an airbag vest that functions similarly to the jeans and is designed to handle impact hits on the front and back. The vest retails for 499 euros ($532).

Moses Shahrivar, the founder of Airbag Inside Sweden AB, believes that the awareness of Airbag Jeans will soon increase dramatically among riders. He said, “This is just the beginning for Mo’cycle. In fact, we eventually plan to release a wide range of washes.” The company is committed to expanding its product line to offer riders even more protection while on the road.

In conclusion, the Mo’cycle Airbag Jeans offer a new level of safety for motorcyclists. With their innovative design and use of Armalith denim, these jeans are a significant step forward in motorcycle safety. The company’s commitment to expanding its product line indicates that we can expect even more advancements in motorcycle safety technology in the future.
