In a recent interview with Vulture, the lead vocalist of Green Day, Billy Joe Armstrong, expressed admiration for singer Olivia Rodrigo and hinted at the possibility of a collaboration. The 20-year-old Oscar-nominated artist received praise from the 51-year-old punk rock icon for her undeniable talent.
Armstrong shared his thoughts on the potential collaboration, stating, “I think it would be fun to work with her sometime. She’s talented.” While discussing the fusion of pop music with punk rock, he acknowledged that some artists may not have the same depth of influences or knowledge about the history of punk rock.
Known for his encyclopedic knowledge of the genre, Armstrong humorously remarked, “I’m kind of an encyclopedia.” Despite not having streamed any of Rodrigo’s songs, he conveyed his interest in working with her, emphasizing the enjoyment he finds in her music.
While admitting that Rodrigo’s music may not be part of his regular playlist, Armstrong acknowledged its quality, saying, “It does pass me by. When I hear it, I think it sounds good.” The prospect of a collaboration between the punk rock veteran and the rising pop sensation has sparked excitement among fans of both artists.
