Dan Levy on creating Big Mistakes: “I won’t let Schitt’s Creek pressure in”

Dan Levy, the mastermind behind the Emmy-winning sitcom Schitt’s Creek, is back with a brand-new project for fans: the Netflix series Big Mistakes.

In a recent interview with CBS News, Levy addressed whether he feels pressure to replicate the unprecedented success of Schitt’s Creek.

“No, I wouldn’t let it in. I don’t think you can,” Levy said. “And you really have to lock the door on that and almost accept the fact that, if that is the big crown jewel, fabulous. How wonderful! Everything else has to be something that makes me feel good.”

Big Mistakes is a crime comedy following a New Jersey pastor and his sister, who find themselves accidentally embroiled in organized crime. Levy explained the premise stems from his own fear of being trapped: “I just know that if I ever were tasked with helping a criminal organization, I would be the biggest liability. So that, to me, felt like a very funny place to start.”

Levy will star in and co-write the series, marking his first project after Schitt’s Creek. The cast also includes Taylor Ortegaas Levy’s sister and Laurie Metcalf as their mother.

Fans can look forward to Big Mistakes premiering on Netflix on April 9.

With a fresh concept and Levy’s signature comedic touch, Big Mistakes promises to be a thrilling and funny next chapter in his career, free from the shadow of his past success.
