Daniel Radcliffe recently shared his cherished memories of working with the late Michael Gambon on the iconic Harry Potter film series. Gambon, celebrated for his portrayal of Dumbledore in six of the eight HP movies, sadly passed away on September 28 at the age of 82 after battling pneumonia.
Speaking at Variety’s Business of Broadway Breakfast, Radcliffe was asked about his working relationship with the legendary actor. Radcliffe warmly reflected, “The wonderful thing about Michael is that he wasn’t an actor you talked about acting with.” He added an intriguing detail, saying, “His true passion was restoring 19th-century Italian dueling pistols.”
As Radcliffe delved into Gambon’s approach to acting, he revealed, “He knows he’s at his best when he’s at his most playful. His ability to switch on was second to none.”
Following the news of Gambon’s passing, both Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and leading actress Emma Watson expressed their condolences and shared their sentiments.
Radcliffe also took to social media to pay tribute to Gambon, praising his exceptional acting and immense talent.
Apart from fondly recalling his moments with Michael Gambon, Radcliffe delved into the art of acting and the impact of his collaboration with Richard Griffiths, recognized for his role as Uncle Vernon Dursley in the off-Broadway rendition of “Merrily We Roll Along.” Radcliffe underscored the significant lesson he gained from this experience, expressing, “Observing Richard’s approach to theatre taught me a great deal. It emphasized that theatre is an ongoing journey of continuous and unwavering improvement. There’s never a point where you can consider yourself finished. Your ultimate performance should always strive to be your finest.”
Through his heartfelt reflections, Daniel Radcliffe continues to honor the memory and contributions of the late Michael Gambon, who left an indelible mark on the world of film and acting.
