Eddie Murphy, the iconic actor, and comedian known for his legendary career in entertainment, is making headlines for his extravagant Christmas celebrations. In a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, Murphy, currently promoting his Prime Video movie “Candy Cane Lane,” shared insights into his holiday traditions and his role as Chris Carver in the festive film.
“My house is beyond Chris Carver every year — my house is all out Christmas,” Murphy exclaimed during a joint interview with co-star Tracee Ellis Ross.
Describing the centerpiece of his Christmas decor, Murphy emphasized, “We’re talking about one behemoth tree. When you walk into the house, this tree has to be.” Despite the 2023 Rockefeller Centre tree standing at an impressive 80 feet tall and weighing 12 tons, Murphy’s tree in his Los Angeles home is reportedly slightly shorter but still surpasses most indoor Christmas trees in size.
Detailing the unique feature of his Christmas setup, Murphy shared, “Our tree is 20 feet high. Where the tree is, the roof is open. The tree doesn’t come up that high, but if we wanted to [go bigger], the roof slides open.” Humorously noting, “I have a convertible house.”
Earlier this year, Murphy was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry over his illustrious career.
In “Candy Cane Lane,” released on December 1, Murphy’s character, Chris Carver, sets out to win the competition for the best-decorated house in his neighborhood, infusing the film with humor and holiday cheer.
As fans anticipate Murphy’s festive extravaganza, the actor continues to captivate audiences, both on and off the screen, with his larger-than-life personality and love for celebrating the magic of Christmas.
