Elle Fanning is speaking candidly about her approach to on-screen nudity in her latest project, the Margo’s Got Money Troubles, saying she is comfortable with portraying such scenes when they serve the story.
The 28-year-old actress shared that she does not consider herself “very modest” on camera, noting that she had already explored similar roles in previous work, including her portrayal in The Great.
“I’ve Already Done This Before”
Fanning explained that her earlier experience helped her feel confident taking on more challenging material in her new series.
“I kind of broke that down in The Great,” she said, adding that she felt she had already gone through similar on-screen experiences before joining the Apple TV+ project.
Rather than feeling uncomfortable, Fanning described herself as “really proud” of how nudity is used in the series.
A Story Focused on Motherhood, Not Sexualisation
In Margo’s Got Money Troubles, nudity is presented within the context of motherhood, identity, and survival rather than sexualisation. Fanning emphasized that the intention behind these scenes is storytelling, not shock value.
She explained that much of the narrative focuses on a young mother navigating financial pressure after turning to platforms like OnlyFans to support her child.
Exploring a Changing Relationship With the Body
Fanning said the series highlights how the main character’s relationship with her body evolves over time, especially as she navigates motherhood and financial independence.
She also revealed that prosthetics were used during breastfeeding scenes to ensure realism and comfort while filming.
“It was a very technical process,” she shared, describing the use of prosthetics and special effects to create breastfeeding visuals on set.
A Thoughtful Approach to Sensitive Storytelling
According to Fanning, the show uses physical vulnerability as a way to explore deeper emotional themes, including motherhood, sacrifice, and self-perception.
She noted that scenes involving nudity were carefully designed to reflect the character’s journey rather than serve as sensational moments.
