In a recent interview with British Vogue, renowned actress Emma Watson shared insights into her decision to step away from the spotlight and reflected on the newfound sense of autonomy and creative sovereignty she has discovered.
Having wrapped up her last movie in 2019, Watson expressed her happiness about the hiatus, stating, “I’m just so glad that I did step away from acting because I have this feeling of having my own voice and creative space and sovereignty in some way that I don’t think I did before – more autonomy.”
Acknowledging the significance of the decision to take a break from her rapidly moving career, the Harry Potter star admitted, “I was in a career that moves very quickly, and the decision to take time to do these things felt like a very big decision” at the time.
Embracing the uncertainty and allowing herself the freedom to navigate through the unknown, Watson emphasized, “I’m so glad that I allowed things to be messy for a minute and to really allow myself to not know [what’s next], because the knowing that I’ve come to, I wouldn’t trade that for anything.”
The interview delved into Watson’s struggles despite her Hollywood success. “I get a front-row seat [with] some of the most successful, beautiful, incredible people in the world,” remarked the 33-year-old actress. She added a profound observation, stating, “And when you have that seat, it becomes very, very clear that there is just absolutely no level of success that will make you in any way happy or content if you do not like who you are or enjoy what you’re doing when no one’s watching.”
Earlier this year, Emma Watson addressed her four-year absence from acting in an interview with Financial Times, revealing, “I wasn’t very happy, if I’m being honest. I think I felt a bit caged.”
While Watson has taken a step back from acting, she hinted at the possibility of returning to the industry at some point in the future. As fans eagerly await her next move, Emma Watson continues to inspire with her candid reflections on happiness, self-discovery, and the pursuit of personal fulfillment beyond the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
