Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s relationship is flourishing months after they first confirmed their romance. The pair, who made their public debut as a couple in January 2025 by holding hands during a dinner in Santa Monica, are reportedly building a “good foundation,” according to a PEOPLE source.
Supporting Each Other on Stage
Recently, Jackman, 56, and Foster, 50, were spotted together at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts. Jackman attended Foster’s One Night Only performance at Tanglewood Music Center, where she shared the stage with Kelli O’Hara. An insider revealed that Jackman was “excited” to be there, highlighting how much the couple prioritizes each other.
Though they prefer to keep their romance private, Jackman and Foster have been seen together multiple times over the past few months. This includes a hand-in-hand stroll in New York City in May, while Jackman was performing in the Off-Broadway play Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Class.
Their first public outing as a couple came on January 6, just days after Jackman attended Foster’s play Once Upon a Mattress in Los Angeles. Foster later returned the support by attending the opening night of Jackman’s show From New York, with Love in New York City.
From Friendship to Romance
The relationship comes after major personal transitions for both actors. Jackman separated from his wife of 27 years, Deborra-lee Furness, in September 2023, while Foster filed for divorce from Ted Griffin in October 2024.
Jackman and Foster first crossed paths in the early 2000s while working on separate Broadway productions. They reconnected years later as co-stars in the revival of The Music Man, which opened in 2022 after pandemic-related delays.
Foster reflected on their growing friendship at the time, saying:
“The best thing that’s happened out of this whole thing is that I’ve made a new friend, which you never anticipate. We always joke that after 40, you don’t really make new friends! He’s a dream and so kind and talented, and is even more generous. He’s pretty fantastic.”
Jackman admitted in an interview with Seth Meyers that he initially felt intimidated by Foster’s Broadway legacy, adding that he had “watched everything she’s done and it’s amazing.” Foster called their time in The Music Man “so joyful” and said she was “having the time of my life playing opposite this guy.”
