NEW YORK — Hugh Jackman has revealed that he stepped in to help Blake Lively avoid a potential wardrobe mishap at the Met Gala 2026, just hours after the actress’s widely reported legal settlement with filmmaker Justin Baldoni.
The moment added a lighter note to an otherwise headline-heavy week for Lively, who recently settled a prolonged legal dispute stemming from her film It Ends With Us.
Blake Lively returns to Met Gala spotlight
Lively made her return to the Met Gala on May 4, wearing a pastel archival Versace gown from the 2006 spring collection, paired with custom jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz.
Her appearance marked her first Met Gala attendance since 2022 and came shortly after the conclusion of her legal battle, which had been ongoing since December 2024.
Hugh Jackman shares behind-the-scenes moment
Speaking on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Jackman said the incident happened during the event when Lively asked for help with her sweeping gown.
“She goes, ‘Dude, I need some help with the dress. I think there’s a hook in there,’” Jackman recalled.

He jokingly added that he first checked with her husband, Ryan Reynolds, before stepping in.
“Ryan, is this cool? Checking. Are we good?” he said, referencing the lighthearted moment.
Jackman described it as a brief but memorable interaction during fashion’s biggest night.
Legal case behind the headlines
The conversation comes in the aftermath of Lively’s legal dispute with Baldoni, in which she accused him of misconduct and workplace issues during production of It Ends With Us.
Baldoni denied the allegations and filed a countersuit involving Lively and Reynolds, though both parties ultimately reached a settlement ahead of a scheduled trial in May 2026.
Met Gala full of celebrity moments
Jackman attended the Met Gala with his partner Sutton Foster, while Reynolds did not accompany Lively to the event.
Despite the surrounding controversy, the evening also highlighted several lighthearted celebrity interactions and behind-the-scenes moments that quickly went viral.
