Meghan Markle has once again found herself at the center of public scrutiny, this time following controversy surrounding her husband, Prince Harry, and his decision to step down from Sentebale, the charity he founded.
Sentebale was established in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support children and adolescents affected by HIV/AIDS in the country. The Duke of Sussex, who was deeply moved by the crisis, named the organization in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana. The name “Sentebale” means “forget-me-not” in the Sesotho language, reflecting Harry’s dedication to his mother’s charitable legacy.

However, the charity has recently become a topic of controversy following Harry’s resignation. Chief Khoabane Theko, Prince Seeiso’s brother, expressed his surprise and disappointment at Harry’s decision to walk away from a cause so deeply tied to his mother’s legacy. He voiced concerns that Harry had “lost interest” in the charity and suggested that his departure had dampened the charity’s morale.
“It’s surprising to me that he’s letting go of the charity at this stage, especially when I expected him to protect it fiercely, considering it’s connected to his mother’s legacy,” Chief Khoabane told The Telegraph. “It feels like he’s lost interest, and it’s really hurt the charity’s spirit.”
Harry’s resignation from Sentebale follows a public dispute involving the charity’s trustees and chairperson, Dr. Sophie Chandauka. Dr. Chandauka publicly accused Harry of bullying and claimed the charity had been plagued by internal corruption and harassment. Despite this, Chief Khoabane expressed disbelief over the speed with which Harry left the organization, noting that the change in his attitude seemed to coincide with his marriage to Meghan Markle and their relocation to the United States.

The chief also highlighted Harry’s diminished visits to Lesotho since his marriage, pointing out that Meghan had never visited the charity, despite traveling to Africa with Harry on several occasions. “Did she never come to Lesotho, Meghan? No, she hasn’t,” Chief Khoabane remarked. “So it seems like she’s a distant figure to us, we don’t know her.”
He also expressed confusion over the couple’s recent trip to Botswana, which did not include a visit to Lesotho, a place with significant ties to Harry’s charity. “I was a bit perturbed when they went to Botswana and not Lesotho. It’s strange, especially knowing how important Lesotho is to them,” said the chief.
Despite the controversy surrounding his resignation, Chief Khoabane suggested that Harry’s departure may not be the end of his involvement with Sentebale. “Maybe Harry stepped away because he plans to return and fix things,” he speculated. “I don’t think it’s easy for him to walk away from it. It’s a bit strange for me.”
As Prince Harry steps back from Sentebale, the situation continues to stir debate and raise questions about his ongoing commitment to the causes he once held so dear.
