Jamie Dornan, renowned for his roles in action-packed movies and his presence in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” series, recently revisited a pivotal moment in his career—the auditions for the iconic role of Superman in Zach Snyder’s “Man of Steel.” In a candid conversation on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Dornan shared insights into his audition process, shedding light on his unique approach and the intriguing backstory of his brush with the superhero world.
Despite his involvement in several action-oriented films, Dornan disclosed that he had not yet ventured into the domain of comic book movies. However, he vividly recounted his endeavor to step into the legendary shoes of Superman, a character that has captured the imagination of generations.
“I wore my own suit there. Was that a mistake? They were Superman pajamas; they weren’t actual suits. I remember an early audition for that,” Dornan playfully reminisced, recounting his unique attire selection for the audition. The Irish actor took an extra step, opting for Superman-themed pajamas to exemplify his sincere dedication and fervor for the character’s role.
Dornan’s attempt to leave a lasting impression didn’t end with his distinctive wardrobe choice. He recounted, “The only one I auditioned for is Superman.” This candid revelation provided a glimpse into the audition process that actors go through to secure coveted roles, even for iconic characters like Superman.
However, Dornan’s journey towards embodying the Man of Steel was short-lived. While his audition might have been memorable, he never had the chance to don the official Superman costume for a test shoot, a step that often carries significant weight in the casting process.
Reflecting on the experience, Dornan revealed, “I got nowhere near putting the suit on. I’ve had meetings with heads of studios that do those things and would talk about it, but I never got deep in any audition process for them.”
As Dornan recounted his audacious attempt to step into the superhero realm and shared the behind-the-scenes details of his audition for Superman, his story provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of auditions, aspirations, and the intricate process of landing roles in major blockbuster films.
