Jessica Vosk has shared an honest glimpse into what it feels like to perform one of Broadway’s most emotional roles—revealing that hearing the audience cry can be both overwhelming and meaningful.
Currently starring in Beaches: A New Musical, the production is based on the beloved story by Iris Rainer Dart, which was first published in 1985 and later adapted into the 1988 film Beaches.
‘It Feels Terrible’—But Necessary
In a recent interview, Vosk opened up about portraying Cee Cee Bloom, a character whose emotional journey deeply resonates with audiences. Performing alongside Kelli Barrett as Bertie White, she revealed that the final moments of the show often leave theatergoers in tears.
According to Vosk, hearing sobs from the audience during the last 20 minutes of the performance feels “terrible”—not because it’s unwelcome, but because of the intensity of the shared emotion.
At the same time, she acknowledged that such reactions are deeply human and an essential part of storytelling.
A Story That Spans Decades
Beaches tells the story of a 30-year friendship between two women from very different worlds. Through ups and downs—including rivalry, heartbreak, and profound loss—their bond remains unbreakable.

It’s this emotional depth that continues to strike a chord with audiences, making each performance a powerful shared experience.
Gratitude Behind the Curtain
Despite the emotional weight, Vosk emphasized that she feels grateful every night she steps on stage. For her, knowing that the audience connects so deeply with the story is an honor.
She described each performance as a moment of appreciation, where the emotional exchange between actor and audience becomes something truly special.
Limited Broadway Run
The musical officially opened at the Majestic Theatre on April 22, 2026, and is scheduled to run through September 6, 2026.
As the show continues its limited engagement, Beaches remains a poignant reminder of friendship, loss, and the emotional power of live theater.
