Jimmy Fallon, known for his comedic brilliance on The Tonight Show, marked a poignant milestone in his career with his Broadway debut in All In: Comedy About Love. Following his first performance on January 28th at the Hudson Theatre in New York City, Fallon took a moment backstage to honor his late mother, Gloria, whose memory deeply influenced the evening.
In a video shared by People Magazine, Fallon reflected on the significance of performing on Broadway, especially as a native New Yorker. “Broadway is New York. I’m a New Yorker, I’m a native New Yorker, and it was always part of my life growing up,” he said. “It’s almost like a sixth borough. It is New York. So to be here is so, so special.”
As he continued to speak, Fallon recalled how much his mother loved Broadway and how much she would have been proud of him. “My mom always loved Broadway,” he said. “If she were here, she’d be so proud.” He then opened up about the personal emotions tied to this performance, stating, “Today, I lost my biggest fan,” in reference to his mother’s passing in 2017.
All In: Comedy About Love, directed by Alex Timbers, explores stories of dating, heartbreak, marriage, and the complexities of love. Written by former SNL writer Simon Rich, the play features Fallon alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda, Aidy Bryant, and Nick Kroll.
Fallon also shared his feelings about his Broadway debut, admitting the experience was both exhilarating and exhausting. “I’m kind of exhausted, I’m kind of drained, because you get so nervous about the part that you do,” he explained. “And you say, ‘Did I rush it? Did I rush it?’ It’s like riding the greatest, most fun roller coaster and you want to do it again. It’s everything.”
The show, which has captured the attention of Broadway audiences, has a limited run, concluding on February 2nd, 2025. Fallon’s heartfelt tribute to his mother added a deeply personal layer to his already memorable debut, marking a moment of both professional achievement and emotional reflection.
