Early creative work by Kanye West is reportedly experiencing a dramatic rise in value, with collectors now claiming the pieces could be worth millions.
Entrepreneur Vinoda Basnayake purchased a set of West’s teenage drawings after they were featured on the television program Antiques Roadshow in 2021, where they were originally valued between $16,000 and $23,000.
Artwork Reappraised at Millions
According to recent reports, Basnayake now believes the collection is worth approximately $3.1 million following a new valuation conducted in late 2025, as reported by Page Six.

The collection includes five pieces created by West during his school years in Chicago in the 1990s. Among them is a portrait of his late mother, Donda West, which is now estimated to be worth around $335,000 on its own.
Debate Over Valuation Approach
Basnayake claims the original television appraisal significantly undervalued the artwork by treating it as standard “celebrity art” rather than early works from a future global superstar.
He explained that the initial valuation failed to consider the broader artistic context behind the pieces.
A New Perspective on Early Work
The updated appraisal reportedly takes a different approach, viewing the drawings as the beginning of Kanye West’s creative evolution—before he became one of the most influential figures in modern music and fashion.
According to the appraiser, the works should be understood as the “opening chapter” of West’s artistic journey, which later expanded into a career spanning music production, global chart success, and fashion innovation.
As interest in celebrity-origin artwork continues to grow, the valuation highlights how early creative expressions can gain significant cultural and financial value over time.
