Keanu Reeves, the globally celebrated actor known for his iconic role in John Wick, recently opened up about the music that shaped his early years. The 60-year-old star, who is also a member of the alternative rock band Dogstar, revealed that classic rock played a pivotal role in his musical upbringing.
Growing Up with The Beatles
In a conversation with Ultimate Guitar, Reeves admitted that he spent much of his youth listening to albums by the legendary English band, The Beatles.
“I had a record player pretty young. So of course, I listened to The Beatles Revolver and Abbey Road. I always listened to the basslines,” he shared. Reeves, who is half English, said that these albums left a lasting impression on his musical sensibilities.
Discovering Post-Punk and New Wave
Reeves also credited a former girlfriend with expanding his musical horizons. She introduced him to bands like Joy Division and New Order, while he was already familiar with punk legends such as The Ramones.

“I had a girlfriend at the time, who had kind of changed my life musically. So she introduced me to Joy Division and I’d heard the Ramones. But it was really Joy Division and New Order,” Reeves added.
