Lady Gaga is now facing a legal battle as a California surf brand, Lost International, accuses her of infringing on their trademark with her Mayhem merch.
Lost International, a surf and lifestyle company, claims that Gaga’s use of the Mayhem logo for her album and related merchandise is “substantially similar, if not nearly identical” to the design they’ve used since 1986. The company alleges that it trademarked the logo in 2015 and has been using it for years on surfboards, clothing, accessories, and surf videos.
The lawsuit, filed in California district court on March 25, further claims that Gaga’s use of the design could mislead the public into believing her merch is connected to their brand. The company reportedly sent a cease-and-desist letter to Gaga’s team, but claims it was ignored. Lost International argues that this could harm their reputation and cause confusion among customers.

However, Gaga’s legal team is pushing back. Her attorney, Orin Snyder, dismissed the lawsuit, calling it an opportunistic attempt to capitalize on her success. “Lady Gaga’s Mayhem soared to No. 1 and shattered records, a testament to her unmatched talent and global impact,” Snyder said in a statement. “It’s disappointing—but hardly surprising—that someone is now attempting to capitalize on her success with a baseless lawsuit over the name Mayhem. This is nothing more than an opportunistic and meritless abuse of the legal system.”

Despite the legal drama, Gaga’s Mayhem album has been a massive success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The singer is also gearing up for her upcoming Mayhem Ball tour, which is set to launch in July. While the lawsuit looms, it seems the pop star has plenty to keep her occupied in the coming months.
As the legal proceedings unfold, it remains to be seen whether this battle will impact Gaga’s branding or her ongoing musical success.
