At the highly anticipated One Piece Day event in Tokyo, Netflix made an exciting announcement: the live-action adaptation of the iconic manga and anime series One Piece has been officially renewed for a third season. This early renewal is a major milestone, coming months before the Season 2 premiere scheduled for 2026.
Alongside the renewal news, Netflix confirmed that Ian Stokes will join Joe Tracz as co-showrunner for Season 3. Stokes, who served as co-executive producer on Season 1 and wrote two episodes, is stepping in following the departure of former co-showrunner Matt Owens, who left the show in March to focus on his mental health.
Netflix also released a teaser for Season 2, titled Into the Grand Line, which highlights the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy) and the Straw Hat Pirates as they navigate a perilous and legendary sea. The streaming giant describes the season as:
“Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line — a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.”
The returning cast includes Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero, and Taz Skylar, with new faces such as Charithra Chandran, Joe Manganiello, and Katey Sagal joining the series. Mikaela Hoover will bring the beloved character Tony Tony Chopper to life through voice and motion capture.
Production for Season 3 is set to begin later this year in Cape Town, South Africa. While an official release date has yet to be announced, fans can anticipate Season 3’s debut sometime after the launch of Season 2 in 2026.
