Olivia Rodrigo Unintentionally Turns Tables on Prying Ex with Hilarious Instagram Blunder

Olivia Rodrigo, the three-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, recently took a moment to share a side of herself that many can relate to: the inadvertent social media mishap. In a candid interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Rodrigo opened up about a cringe-worthy encounter involving her ex-boyfriend and a rather embarrassing Instagram error.

The story unfolded as Rodrigo confessed to engaging in some typical social media stalking. “I had this very embarrassing encounter once where I was stalking my ex as one does. Sue me, sorry,” she laughed, setting the stage for a tale that had both the audience and Fallon eagerly listening.

The Grammy winner revealed that, in the process of scrolling through her ex’s Instagram profile, she accidentally hit the follow button. What made the situation even more awkward was Rodrigo’s atypical Instagram behavior—she doesn’t follow anyone on the platform, a deliberate choice to keep a low profile on social media.

“I was just following one person, so it was super obvious that I was following him,” Rodrigo explained. The singer’s friend quickly caught on to the accidental follow and rushed into her room with a prompt, “Did you mean to follow him? Unfollow him!”

In an attempt to rectify the situation, Rodrigo swiftly tapped “unfollow.” However, a comedic twist ensued when her phone unexpectedly died, leaving her unable to access the Instagram app. “I couldn’t find a charger, so I was just following my ex for a while,” she humorously recounted. People started speculating, with some even suggesting that she had been hacked. Rodrigo quipped, “Yeah, you guys be safe! Get your two-factor authentication, you guys.”

Learning from the amusing yet awkward incident, Rodrigo shared with Fallon that she has since taken measures to avoid a repeat performance. The singer now maintains a hidden Instagram account, often referred to as a “Finsta” (fake Instagram), allowing her to “just lurk and be curious” without the risk of accidentally revealing her digital detective work.

Rodrigo’s candid storytelling not only entertained the audience but also resonated with anyone who has experienced the pitfalls of navigating relationships in the age of social media. As the “Good 4 U” singer continues to dominate the music scene, her relatable anecdotes only serve to endear her further to fans around the world.
