We’re less than a month away from the 96th Oscars ceremony and returning host Jimmy Kimmel is preparing for the big night. In the first teaser trailer for the awards show, Kimmel gets lost on the way to Hollywood and sees himself in Barbieland.
It’s an amazing take on Barbie, as Jimmy “Ken” Kimmel meets up with Weird Barbie, played by Kate McKinnon duplicating her role, and goes off on a journey to get safely to “OscarsLand”.
Along the way, they recap the Best Picture noms – American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things, The Zone of Interest – and they also encounter Bella Baxter (+ Godwin), America Ferrera, and Ryan Gosling in a Kenough sweater. This has to be one of the best Oscar promo videos in years, they actually get in some solid jokes and it’s not too cheesy or dumb. Nice work! More of this humor, please.

Here’s the start of America Ferrera’s great speech: “It’s literally impossible to host the Oscars. You have to be extraordinary, but somehow you’re always doing it wrong… Like – you to make fun of people, but you can’t make too much of people. And you have to give everybody enough time, but you can’t go long… And you are the center of attention, but almost nobody cares you there…” Ha ha. Sounds about right! It is pretty hard to host the Oscars! And everyone will criticize you and if goes well, no one will say much.

The 2024 Academy Awards ceremony will take place on the evening of March 10th starting one hour earlier at 7ET/4PT on ABC.
