On Thursday, June 26, the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales hosted a pivotal roundtable titled Nature’s Guardians: On the Road to COP30 & Beyond at St James’s Palace during London Climate Action Week.
Spotlight on Indigenous-Led Climate Solutions
The high-level event, organized in collaboration with United for Wildlife and The Earthshot Prize, brought together Indigenous leaders, environmental experts, and global policymakers. Among the distinguished guests was Brazil’s Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sonia Guajajara, who emphasized the need for Indigenous communities to be central in shaping conservation policies.
“All life begins with nature,” Prince William stated in his opening remarks. “Our forests, rivers, and the ocean are not just landscapes — they are the foundation of life on Earth.”
The Prince of Wales, 43, stressed that Indigenous communities are often the most effective stewards of the environment and must be at the forefront of global conservation strategies.
“We must move from promises to action — grounded in respect, equity, and shared responsibility,” he urged attendees.
Setting the Stage for COP30 and the Earthshot Prize
This landmark discussion builds momentum for Prince William’s anticipated visit to Brazil for the COP30 Climate Conference in November 2025, where he will announce this year’s Earthshot Prize winners. The event also precedes the final episode of Guardians, a docuseries produced by the Royal Foundation that highlights the vital work of wildlife rangers and environmental defenders around the globe.

Prince William’s engagement signals a shift in global environmental conversations, pushing for meaningful inclusion of Indigenous knowledge and leadership.
