Scarlett Johansson, who turned 40 on November 22, shared that reaching this milestone has given her a newfound sense of liberation and confidence. In recent appearances on Today with Hoda & Jenna and Live with Kelly and Mark, the actress opened up about the freedom that comes with aging and how she is embracing this new chapter of her life.
“Well, it’s only been three days, but so far, it’s great,” Johansson said, speaking with enthusiasm about her birthday experience. She reflected on the liberating feeling that accompanies turning 40, saying, “You also don’t care what anybody thinks, which is so liberating. It’s so liberating!”
Johansson also recalled the surprise birthday celebration organized by her husband, comedian Colin Jost, who has been married to her for four years. “He threw me a humungous bash this year,” she revealed. The party, which she described as a “this is your life” experience, left a lasting impression. “It was surreal. I’m still processing it, actually,” she admitted. “It was really wonderful to see everybody that I loved all together loving each other. It was so fun.”
The celebration included plenty of martinis, and Johansson joked, “I had all the martinis for everyone and I can’t wait to see the photos so I can remember the night.” Despite the fun, she also shared how meaningful it was to have her loved ones gather in one place to celebrate her.
In addition to the party, Johansson praised her husband’s thoughtful gift-giving skills. “He’s very good at gift-giving. He always buys beautiful jewelry,” she said, acknowledging his effort to make the occasion even more special.
For Johansson, turning 40 has been a moment to reflect on her life and feel more comfortable in her own skin, shedding the worries of others’ opinions. As she celebrates her personal growth and the love surrounding her, the actress seems ready to embrace the future with even more freedom and confidence.
