Israel’s air strikes on Gaza caused entire Palestinian families to be wiped out: Prime Minister

Mohammad Shtayyeh, the Palestinian Prime Minister, said on Monday in a televised statement that Israel has wiped out entire Palestinian families during its bombardments of the Gaza Strip.

He said that thousands of Gazans have died and many others were forced to flee their homes as Israeli warplanes bombarded neighborhood after neighborhood in the besieged enclave.

Almost 2,750 Palestinians have been killed and 9,700 others were injured in Israeli air strikes on Gaza since October 7, the Palestinian health ministry said on Monday, as Israel readied to launch a ground invasion.

Israeli forces, backed by a growing deployment of US warships in the region and the call-up of some 360,000 reservists, have placed themselves along Gaza’s border and started exercises for what Israel said would be a comprehensive campaign to dismantle the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the Associated Press reported.

Israeli officials have given no timetable for a ground incursion that aid groups warn could hasten a humanitarian crisis in the coastal Gaza enclave.

The situation in Gaza could lead to another “Nakba” scenario, the prime minister says, adding that a mass genocide was taking place.

He called on the international community to explicitly denounce Israel’s battle in Gaza, saying that the continued siege had displaced thousands.

The prime minister also confirmed that he was in talks with humanitarian organizations to allow the delivery of medical and humanitarian assistance to Gazans.

More than 100 trucks taking humanitarian aid were waiting for entry at the Rafah border crossing on Monday following reports that a truce between Israel, Egypt, and the United Nations would be underway soon.
