On Saturday, US Special Envoy David Satterfield said that between 800,000 to a million people have moved to the south of the Gaza Strip, while 350,000-400,000 remain in the north of the enclave.

Speaking to reporters in the Jordanian capital Amman, he said that there were no recorded instances of Hamas blocking or seizing aid in Gaza.

He noted, “Fuel in depots in Gaza has been accessed by UNRWA for aid trucks, de-salinization and hospitals in the south of Gaza.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has repeatedly called for a full cease-fire, and Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian UN ambassador, criticized Griffiths for talking about humanitarian pauses, something the United States is also urging.

This means “Israel continues killing the Palestinians, but gives us few hours every now and then, in order to get food and other stuff,” Mansour said.

He said a cease-fire is essential to save lives, saying that “almost 50 percent of all the structures in the Gaza Strip” have been destroyed by Israel and the situation for Palestinians “is beyond comprehension and beyond description.”
