Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, will travel to Egypt on Friday, part of a trip to the Middle East where he wants to press his message that there should be no escalation of violence in the region following the Israeli attack on Gaza.
Rishi Sunak was the latest Western leader to visit Israel on Thursday to show backing for Israel and to attempt to negotiate a way to secure the release of hostages taken by Hamas and ease the provision of humanitarian aid to people in Gaza.
He met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia later on Thursday, where he urged the leader to use Saudi leadership in the region to support stability, highlighting the fear that the Israel-Hamas war could ignite regional unrest.
In the discussions in Egypt, Sunak will emphasize “the imperative of avoiding regional escalation and stopping the further unnecessary loss of civilian life”, his office said.
