Buckingham Palace and Balmoral Castle introduce new experience for royal fans

Balmoral Castle and Buckingham Palace are introducing new visitor experiences this summer as it recently announced that both royal residences will offer guided tours featuring previously unseen areas.

Balmoral Castle, nestled in the Scottish Highlands and cherished as the royal family’s summer retreat since its completion in 1855, will open its doors to the public, marking a historic moment.

While the castle holds happy memories, it also bears the weight of tragedy, notably Princess Diana’s passing in 1997 and Queen Elizabeth’s death in 2022.

The Castle’s Internal Guided Tours promise an intimate exploration, with access to areas beyond the ballroom, a first for visitors. These exclusive tours, limited to 10 people per session, will run from July 1 to August 4, offering a unique glimpse into royal life.

Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace, a popular attraction since its fundraising reopening in 1993, is unveiling new sections for public viewing.

The East Wing, where the King filmed his Christmas broadcast in December 2023, will be accessible for the first time this summer.

After five years of extensive restoration work, the palace will open seven days a week in July and August, reverting to a five-day schedule in September.

Despite its significance as the administrative center of the monarchy, Buckingham Palace is undergoing a massive renovation, expected to conclude in 2027, during which King Charles and Queen Camilla reside elsewhere.
