Prince William’s passionate dedication to tackling homelessness will soon reach audiences worldwide as his documentary, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, debuted on Disney+ in the U.S. on November 1. This release follows its U.K. premiere on ITV and ITVx, airing over two nights on October 30-31. The two-part series offers an in-depth view of William’s efforts and the significant work done through the Homewards program, a five-year initiative he launched to demonstrate that ending homelessness is achievable.
Filmed for a year, the documentary follows the 42-year-old Prince of Wales as he visits six U.K. regions selected for the Homewards initiative, including Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Lambeth, Newport, Northern Ireland, and Sheffield. These communities serve as pilot locations where William works with local charities, agencies, and advocates to drive solutions to make homelessness “rare, brief, and non-recurring.”
The film also presents powerful stories of those directly affected by homelessness, giving voice to their experiences and struggles, while showcasing innovative strategies being piloted across these communities. In one emotional scene, William reflects on the influence of his late mother, Princess Diana, who introduced him to homelessness charities as a young boy. “My mother took me to The Passage… I was about 10 and a bit anxious about what to expect,” he shares in the film, emphasizing the lasting impact of Diana’s compassion and dedication to social causes. These early experiences with his mother inspired William’s lifelong commitment to the issue, leading him to serve as patron of Centrepoint, a homelessness charity close to Diana’s heart, and more recently, of The Passage.
Speaking at the annual Centrepoint Awards this past October, William praised young people who had overcome homelessness and now contribute actively to their communities. “What inspires me most about the young people here is that they have not only overcome homelessness to achieve their personal goals, but they are also contributing to their communities through teaching, fundraising, and volunteering,” he said, adding that his ultimate goal is to foster a movement that prioritizes preventive solutions and offers affordable housing options to allow young people to thrive independently.
William’s work with Homewards will also coincide with his dedication to environmental advocacy. In the upcoming weeks, he will travel to Cape Town, South Africa, for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, where he will highlight innovative solutions addressing global environmental challenges.
With its global release, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness brings the prince’s advocacy and vision to an international stage, inspiring viewers around the world to understand the scope of the crisis and the potential for lasting change.
